KJZZ To Participate in NPR Political Reporting Partnership

KJZZ Sr. Field Correspondent
Jude Joffe-Block
KJZZ 91.5 FM is one of 17 member stations selected to participate in NPR’s 2016 Political Reporting Partnership. NPR hopes to elevate its national election-year reporting by leveraging the localized insight and expertise of member station correspondents. KJZZ Senior Field Correspondent Jude Joffe-Block will work collaboratively with NPR to provide local context for a variety of 2016 campaign issues.

“Our goal is to cover the 2016 election from the ground up. We want to combine local and national knowledge to produce stories that illuminate the choices voters will make,” said NPR Local Partnerships Editor Brett Neely.

According to KJZZ General Manager Jim Paluzzi, being selected for the partnership project is a reflection of the quality of reporting found on KJZZ.

“I’m proud of Jude, and I’m proud that KJZZ was chosen as a partner for this project,” Paluzzi said. “Political reporting in Arizona has become something of a specialized field. Being selected to tell these types of stories to a national audience, and in particular, to tell them to an educated, critical-thinking NPR audience, is really an indicator of the level of excellence we’ve come to expect from all of our KJZZ reporters.”

Joffe-Block joined KJZZ in 2010 as a Fronteras Desk reporter based in Las Vegas. She transitioned to the Phoenix newsroom in July 2012 where she regularly reports on immigration, criminal justice and is currently covering the Sheriff Joe Arpaio racial profiling case. Joffe-Block is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism and Yale University and was a Fulbright Scholar in Mexico.

She said she is grateful for this opportunity and hopes her participation will shed light on the issues facing Arizona voters as they head to the polls. "I'm very excited to work with NPR on election coverage and bring Arizona voters' perspectives to a broader audience."

KJZZ Saves Time And Money With Automated Monthly Donations

Sustaining member "I'm In" campaign graphic.
September is Sustaining Member month at listener-supported public radio station KJZZ 91.5 FM.

Sustaining membership is a fundraising strategy in which donors opt-in to a recurring monthly gift using either a credit card or electronic funds transfer. KJZZ adopted this fundraising strategy for the many benefits it offers to both the organization and the donor.

Sustaining membership provides a stable source of income for the organization resulting in a more reliable budget and more efficient stewardship of donated funds. With retention percentages in the high 90s, this set-it-and-forget-it method of fundraising eliminates the need for reminder mailings and other costly marketing materials. With fewer dollars per donation spent on administration and marketing, more funds are available for programming.

Visit kjzz.org to learn more about the sustaining member program.
